Wells museum asks residents to name faces in photo exhibition
By Laura Linham 14th Oct 2026
Wells residents are being invited to help put names to faces in a new photography exhibition at Wells and Mendip Museum. Wells – Then and Now Revisited opened on Tuesday, 13 October, and runs until Saturday, 19 December, at the museum at 8 Cathedral Green.
The exhibition draws on the work of photographer and local historian Caroline Bagias, who compiled the book Wells – Then and Now 25 years ago. It paired historical photographs with modern pictures taken from the same locations to show how the city had changed.
Caroline used photographs from the museum's collections and took new images for the book. Many of those newer photographs were not included in the final publication.
She has since donated her research archive for the book, along with other examples of her work, to the museum. The exhibition revisits the scenes and people she photographed around the millennium, with visitors encouraged to see whether they recognise anyone and can help identify them.
Entry to the exhibition is included in the museum admission charge. The museum opens Tuesday to Saturday, from 10am to 4pm, with admission priced at £6 for adults, £3 for children and students, and £12 for families. Wells
