Wells Morrisons EV charging plan submitted
By Laura Linham 2nd Jun 2026
Plans have been submitted to Somerset Council for a new electric vehicle charging zone at Morrisons in Wells.
The application, reference 2026/1001/FUL, covers the Morrisons car park at Wm Morrisons Supermarkets, East Somerset Way, Wells, BA5 1SQ.
The proposal includes the creation of an EV charging zone, the erection of jet wash bays, a sub-station enclosure, LV panel, meter cabinet, plant room and associated works.
Documents submitted with the application say the scheme has been put forward on behalf of Motor Fuel Group.
The company says it is looking to roll out EV charging facilities at existing Morrisons sites across the UK.
A planning statement prepared by CarneySweeney says Motor Fuel Group is the UK's largest independent forecourt operator, with more than 900 sites.
The statement says the proposed charging area has been designed to integrate with the existing site operation.
It says the plans would add to the site's existing offer without compromising the efficient operation of the facility.
The documents also say the proposed area would be well-lit and would not raise concerns around anti-social behaviour or natural surveillance.
According to the submitted statement, the charging facility would use a modern design approach and would be "uncluttered and fit for purpose".
It also says the scheme would be Equality Act compliant, with dropped kerbs and other associated measures to support access.
Residents can view the application on the Somerset Council planning portal.
