Wales & West Utilities has announced a postponement of their scheduled gas pipe upgrade work in the Glastonbury Road area of Wells, originally set between 28 May and 14 June.

The decision to delay the final phase of work, which would have impacted the Strawberry Way roundabout, comes in response to feedback from the local community concerning the traffic impact during the Royal Bath & West Show.

Simon Lee, who is managing the project for Wales & West Utilities, stated, "Working with the local community, we have taken on board their concerns and these works will now take place at a later date."

He further emphasised the importance of the gas network to the daily lives of the Wells community, "While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Wells. Whether it's heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it."

Lee also highlighted the future goals of the project, saying, "This final phase of work, when planned, will be essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future."
