Wells Festival of Literature funds school visit by local children's author

Children's author Rebecca Gryspeerdt brought a touch of make believe to a school history lesson when she recently visited Years 1 and 2 at West Pennard Primary School.

Her book Helpful Nell is set in the Bishop's Palace in Wells, and the historic site itself is the youngsters' study topic for the summer term.

The children heard how Nell and Cuddly Rabbit are helping out at the palace and hoping to show the young swans how to ring the bell for food.

The school event was funded by Wells Festival of Literature which also bought two of her books for each class.

Rebecca, an illustrator as well as author, will read from her book on 2 April 11am and 1.30pm at the Bishop's Palace. There will also be a Helpful Nell Spring Easter trail from 29 March to 14 April. Contact bishopspalace.org.uk for tickets.
