Children from Rockers and Rollers day nursery in Wells have been helping to keep spirits high for residents in a nearby care home during the coronavirus lockdown.

The young children have created a raft of pictures, cards, poems and gifts all with the sole purpose of sending love and best wishes to everyone at Fletcher House care home in the city.

Somerset Care run Fletcher House, and a spokesperson said they were incredibly grateful to the nursery children for their creations.

They said: "As we come to terms with a new definition of normal it is important to remember the small sacrifice we continue to make is to help us protect each other and the wonderful key workers who continue to make a far bigger sacrifice.

"For Somerset Care, the situation presents challenges to almost every aspect of delivering care throughout their services, with the main priority maintaining the safety of colleagues and the continuity of support for those entrusted into their care.

"Yet, throughout the lockdown staff and residents at Fletcher House care home have found novel ways to keep spirits up and remain positive.

"External support has also played a monumental role in this process and made a huge difference to morale.

"As regular visitors, the children of Rockers and Rollers enjoy and benefit from the intergenerational interaction as much as the residents, and the noise and laughter has certainly been missed since the lockdown.

"Everyone at Fletcher House would like to say a huge thank you to Rockers and Rollers for their support and generosity as it means so much to us at this time. Stay safe everyone."
