A Wells-based conservation expert has been named in the King's New Year Honours List for her exceptional work preserving historic buildings and monuments. Sally Anne Strachey, founder and technical lead of Sally Strachey Historic Conservation Ltd, has been honoured for her services to heritage conservation.

Strachey, whose career spans more than 30 years, has been at the forefront of conserving some of the UK's most treasured sites. Her company, based in Wells, is an ICON-accredited, award-winning specialist in heritage conservation. The firm has worked on a range of churches and historic sites, offering a full service from feasibility studies to on-site restoration by a team of expert masons, carvers, archaeologists, and conservators.

Strachey's career began in the early 1980s when she worked on Wells Cathedral and Iffley Church. She later earned an ICCROM fellowship, specialising in polychrome sculpture and stone conservation techniques. She was a founding director of Nimbus Conservation Ltd and a partner in the award-winning practice Strachey and Strachey before launching her current business.

Her company has tackled a range of high-profile projects, from conserving medieval monuments to restoring intricate sculptures. Strachey's influence extends beyond her projects; she lectures at Bath University and the Architectural Association, sharing her expertise with the next generation of conservation professionals.
