Wells Fire Station's parking lot was transformed into a bustling car wash at the weekend, as local firefighters wielded hoses not to fight fires, but to fight the impact of dementia within the community, raising an impressive £1,800 in the process.
The event, aimed at supporting the "Singing for the Brain" initiative, saw a steady stream of vehicles and community members coming together for a cause that hits close to home for many.
"Singing for the Brain" offers vital support and creative engagement for individuals and families affected by dementia in Wells and Glastonbury.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of Wells' firefighters, who expertly exchanged fire hoses for pressure washers, the event was a splashing success.
Halfords also contributed generously with cleaning supplies to keep the operation running smoothly.
The local community's support was overwhelming, with many turning up not just to get their cars cleaned but to contribute to a cause that enhances the lives of those living with dementia. The funds raised will directly benefit the "Singing for the Brain" sessions, which include singing, playing instruments, and other music-related activities designed to foster community spirit and support.
"Singing for the Brain" sessions are held weekly, offering a chance for meaningful engagement and respite for carers. With a small fee of £5, which includes refreshments, the initiative remains accessible to all who might benefit from its services.
The success of the car wash is a testament to the strength and compassion of the Wells community, showcasing their commitment to supporting each other and enhancing the lives of those facing challenges with dementia.
