The Wells Comedy Festival celebrates its fifth anniversary with its biggest year yet.
Over the bank holiday weekend of 24-26 May England's smallest city plays host to a 'weekend-long stand-up jamboree' (The Guardian), with more than 70 comedy shows in six Wells venues.
This year's programme includes 'The Mash Report' host Nish Kumar, 'Britain's Got Talent' winner Lost Voice Guy, three-time Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Josie Long, Bafta-nominated 'Uncle' star Nick Helm, 'I'm a Celeb…' contestant Shappi Khorsandi, 'Green Wing's Karl Theobald and 'Taskmaster' stars Phil Wang, Mark Watson and Lou Sanders.
More acts include 'Dead Ringers' and 'Spitting Image' impressionist Jan Ravens, 'Upstart Crow's Spencer Jones, 'I, Daniel Blake' lead Dave Johns, BBC Three star Luke McQueen, 'Mock the Week regulars Rhys James and Tiff Stevenson, '8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown' contestants Jayde Adams and Abandoman, and 'Live at the Apollo' performers Ed Gamble, Desiree Burch, Andrew Maxwell, Suzi Ruffell, Hal Cruttenden, Fern Brady, Laura Lexx, Ahir Shah and Jamali Maddix.
There are also Edinburgh Comedy Award-nominated comics galore, including winners John Robins, Sofie Hagen, John Kearns and Adam Riches, and nominees Ben Target, Lucy Pearman, Adam Hess, Gein's Family Giftshop, Glenn Moore, Sara Barron, Olga Koch, Tony Law, Jordan Brookes and Sarah Kendall.
For those too young for comedy clubs, stand-up Jarred Christmas and beatboxer Hobbit join forces for The Mighty Kids Beatbox Comedy Show, suitable for ages 6+.
And that's not all! There are also shows from character comics Stevie Martin and Goose, tech wizards Foxdog Studios, musical comic Vikki Stone, podcaster Jessica Fostekew – bringing her Hoovering Podcast to the festival – and acclaimed stand-ups Kiri Pritchard-McLean, Sunil Patel, Pat Cahill, Garrett Millerick, Matthew Highton, Harriet Kemsley, Rosie Jones, Annie McGrath, Stuart Laws and Bobby Mair.
Plus, as is now Wells Comedy Festival tradition, the Comedians Cinema Club close the festival with their live, chaotic, alcohol-fuelled reinterpretation of Wells's very own 'Hot Fuzz'.
Tickets are selling fast, with many shows already sold out.
But the festival isn't just about comedy. There's also an official Festival Bar – open till late each night of the festival – serving locally made Mallets Cider and Cheddar Ales. Plus food from Wells's own Da Luciano's – serving fresh pizzas – and coffee and cakes from pop-up cafe The Hatch.
Ben Williams, founder and producer of the festival, said: 'It's our fifth anniversary!
"We've been working hard to bring the best comedians in the country to the south west, and we're chuffed with the 2019 line-up. We can't wait to welcome thousands of comedy fans to the heart of Somerset."
