Wells charity named Charity of the Year at Somerset Business Awards 2025

A Wells-based mental health charity has been awarded one of the top honours at this year's Somerset Business Awards.
Heads Up Somerset, which supports adults living with mental health issues and learning disabilities, was named Charity of the Year at the 2025 ceremony held at the Winter Gardens Pavilion in Weston-super-Mare on Friday, 28 March.
The awards, now in their 20th year, were hosted by Somerset Chamber of Commerce and attended by nearly 400 businesspeople from across the county. The evening was compered by Global and Heart FM journalist Cormac MacMahon.
Heads Up Somerset stood out in a competitive category that also included bibic, based in Langport, and the Somerset Cricket Foundation in Taunton.
In a statement following their win, the charity said: "We are honoured to have received the Somerset Business Award for 'Charity of The Year' last night, it means so much. Past and present; we wish to send out a heartfelt thank you to all staff, trustees, volunteers and supporters – we wouldn't be the charity we are without you."
David Crew, Managing Director of Somerset Chamber of Commerce, said: "Every year the awards recognise and honour the achievements of our vibrant business community. The economic situation may be challenging, but Somerset's business community has again shown resilience and excellence across all sectors."
He added that all finalists should feel "justifiably proud" of their achievements.
The Charity of the Year award, sponsored by Clarke Willmott, celebrates organisations that demonstrate outstanding impact, innovation, and service to their communities.
Heads Up Somerset provides a wide range of services and activities from its base on Upper Breach, just outside Wells, helping individuals to build confidence, develop new skills, and access tailored mental health support. The charity has become a vital part of the local community, and this award recognises the dedication of its team and the difference it makes in people's lives.
