Wells Cathedral welcomes tractors and animals for harvest service
By Laura Linham 8th Oct 2026
Tractors stood outside Wells Cathedral and animals joined the congregation as Somerset Young Farmers gathered for a harvest service.
Three tractors were parked outside, while some members brought animals into the Cathedral. The gathering celebrated the land, the people who work it and the food they produce.
In an account published on Wednesday, 7 October, the Diocese of Bath and Wells said this year's harvest celebrations followed a difficult farming season. A prolonged hot summer, water shortages, shortages of winter feed and the spread of bluetongue had presented challenges.
Diocesan Rural Adviser Rob Walrond said harvest was also an opportunity to support farmers and rural communities.
He said: "Their work matters, and as a church we want them to know they are valued, prayed for and supported."
