The A39 Bristol Hill is scheduled to be closed next week for emergency ash tree removals to take place.

The road is set to be closed from 7am to 5pm on Thursday (June 11) for a total distance of 610 metres.

Ash dieback disease has caused a number of trees to become unsafe, and Somerset Highways need to remove any that might be at risk of falling into the busy road.

Also this week, temporary traffic lights are scheduled to be returning to the A39 Main Road through Coxley.

From Tuesday (June 9) to Thursday, there will be temporary lights in place to enable Truespeed to connect up possible new ultrafast broadband customers by completing a road crossing for a duct and fibre optic cable.

Truespeed have a number of other roadworks planned, including the installation of a new duct next to Wells Town Hall from Tuesday to Thursday.

They are also due to be laying new ducts in Barkham Close and Foster Close from Monday (June 8) to Wednesday (June 10), in Woodbury Avenue on Wednesday, and in Beckynton Avenue and Kings Castle Road from Thursday to June 24.

Other roadworks scheduled to take place in Wells this week include:

Western Power Distribution's emergency work to repair a cable fault in Portway is scheduled to be completed by Thursday.

Wales and West Utilities are scheduled to be laying a new service in Southover from Friday (June 12) to June 17.

Finally, a two-month scaffolding permit is due to start on Monday at Park Cottage in Silver Street.
