Wells locals have reason to celebrate as the newest edition of the Campaign for Real Ale's (CAMRA) Good Beer Guide features two pubs in the area.

This annual guide reviews over 4,500 pubs across the UK, offering a reliable resource for those on the hunt for a quality pint.

Crown Inn, Wells

Located in Town Hall Square, the Crown Inn is a historic establishment that serves as both a hotel and bistro. "Although a hotel and bistro, the separate bar is run as a pub, now with a recently extended range of well-kept ales," states the guide. As you enter the bar via the door on the left of the main entrance, you'll find yourself in a setting that overlooks the main square and marketplace, with the cathedral just a few minutes' walk away. Interestingly, "William Penn, the Quaker, preached to a large crowd outside the building in 1685," the guide adds.

Full Moon, Wells

Situated on 42 Southover, just off the city centre, the Full Moon is a smart, friendly locals' free house. According to the guide, "The interior of the pub comprises a public bar with sports TV and jukebox, and a quieter lounge area which is divided between the bar, a snug-like area and a section suitable for dining." It also highlights that this pub has the city's "largest pub courtyard, and a beer garden beyond there." Families and dogs are welcome, and Wilkins cider is served.

CAMRA Chairman Nik Antona said: "The last few years have been an incredibly difficult time for the industry, and we need more support than ever before to keep our nation's pubs and breweries open and thriving.

"I'd encourage everyone to use this year's Guide to visit the very best pubs and breweries across the UK and support them for generations to come."

If you're interested in embarking on a UK-wide beer adventure, the Good Beer Guide 2024 is a must-have. To grab your copy, visit CAMRA's website.

So why not venture out to these Wells favourites for a pint or two? Your taste buds will thank you! Cheers!
