Tramways Wells is finally seeing progress towards reopening after a fire destroyed large parts of the club on April 30, 2024.

The long-running venue, which suffered extensive damage when flames tore through the bar area and spread to the roof, has remained closed for nearly a year.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using hose reels battled the blaze, with four pumps called in to bring it under control.

The cause of the fire was never fully determined, according to Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

In an update to members, the Tramways committee confirmed that work is finally moving forward.

A statement on Facebook said: "Good news – things are starting to progress at the club. Everything is being removed in readiness for the builders to start work in a couple of weeks. We will keep you posted and thank you for your patience."

It follows months of uncertainty as the club waited for a decision from insurance companies before plans to refurbish could move ahead.

For now, an exact reopening date remains unknown, but with builders set to start work soon, loyal members will be hoping it won't be too much longer before the doors reopen.
