Permission has been granted for a sculpture by eminent sculptor David Backhouse to be installed in the Camery Gardens at Wells Cathedral.

The work, titled Atonement, is a life-size standing figure of Christ holding a crown of thorns in contemplation and will hopefully be positioned to be looking up at the Cathedral building. It will be Mr Backhouse's final piece of work.

Wells Cathedral is yet to confirm a date for the official unveiling of the statue.
