The Flapjackery, which has a store in Wells, is celebrating HRH The Queens' Platinum Jubilee by donating proceeds from the sale of its flapjacks to the Plant A Tree For the Jubilee appeal.

Flapjackery will donate £1.50 to The Queen's Green Canopy every time someone buys eight or 12 flapjacks from any of its shops which are located across the West Country, including Wells.

Carol Myott and Sally Jenkin, who founded Flapjackery in 2015, want to support the project and encourage their customers to support it too, to help with the creation of a lasting legacy that will honour The Queen and benefit future generations.

Sally explained: "Having a business that sells flapjacks put us in a perfect situation to do something special in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee, the like of which our generation is very unlikely to witness again. This legacy is such a positive initiative and we're delighted to be donating to it. With new trees being planted across the UK, as well as dedicated areas of ancient woodland being recognised, it really highlights the vital part trees and woodland play in helping to clean the air we breathe and create new habitats where wildlife can thrive."

Flapjackery's participation in the scheme is part of the wider call for everyone to 'Plant A Tree for the Jubilee' and the business partners have already dug in their own trees at their respective homes near Tavistock.

Sally said: "Carol and I have already planted several trees! We're so proud to be playing just a very tiny part in this in what has to be one of the very best ways to celebrate the jubilee. According to an old Japanese proverb, the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago, and the second best time is today!"

Flapjackery was established by Carol and Sally in 2015 after they both met with success selling flapjacks they had made in their kitchens at local events. With the popularity of their luxurious sweet treats quickly burgeoning, they took over an industrial unit in Tavistock, and today have five shops, a thriving online business and the Flapjackery stand is present at shows and events the length and breadth of the UK.

They currently employ 25 staff with the business having a turnover of more than £1.3m. They also support several charities, including the RNLI, Wells Cathedral and the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Group.

Carol said: "Our charitable donations are very important to us, and we're very lucky that we are able to raise several thousand pounds a year. Adding the Queen's Green Canopy to our bank of charities makes perfect sense."
