Tessa Munt calls for energy bill hike to be scrapped for pensioners

Wells and Mendip Hills MP Tessa Munt has urged the government to scrap the upcoming 6.4% energy bill rise for pensioners who have seen their Winter Fuel Payments reduced.
Her call comes after Ofgem announced the latest increase in the energy price cap, which is set to take effect in April.
The Liberal Democrats are also pushing for the introduction of an energy social tariff to help those in fuel poverty.
Ms Munt said: "Ministers should reverse their cut to Winter Fuel Payments altogether, but the least they could do is ensure bills for those impacted do not rise any further."
She warned that the rising cost of heating is a serious concern for pensioners, with some forced to choose between "heating or eating" this winter.
Munt has joined her party in demanding that the government scrap the planned increase for pensioners affected by the Winter Fuel Payment cuts, arguing that additional support is urgently needed to prevent more people from falling into hardship.
