First is introducing a tap on, tap off system of payment across its buses from Sunday (July 17).

Tap On, Tap Off works in a similar way to buying tickets on the London Underground – you just tap your payment card (or phone if you want to pay by Apple Pay or Google Pay) when you get on the bus, and again when you get off.

It will then automatically work out the best value fare for the journey made, and you'll never pay more than the Day fare for each day you travel in your chosen zone – no matter how many journeys you make.

And the more you travel across seven days (Monday to Sunday) the cheaper the days become.

Not only could this save money, but it is hoped that will also speed boarding times and reduce delays.

However, it is only valid for adult tickets and you must make sure you use the same card every time you tap on and off. It's also not available for three-stop-hops – so you will still need to ask the driver if that's what you need.
