A new chapter has begun in the storied history of a century-old pub site in Wells, as The Sheep & Penguin officially opened its doors to the public at 5pm this evening.

Situated at the corner of Tucker Street and Portway, the building that once housed The Mermaid Inn has undergone a transformative top-to-bottom revamp. After being closed for over a decade and surviving numerous attempts to bring it back to life, the structure has been reborn as The Sheep & Penguin.

The new establishment promises to add a unique flair to Somerset's smallest city, offering a welcoming pub on the ground floor, complete with bed-and-breakfast accommodation above.

Local councillors, having voted to grant a new alcohol licence, expressed enthusiasm for the revival of the once-popular location. The project aims to provide locals and tourists with a new favourite spot to gather and enjoy each other's company.

"We can't wait to welcome you all to your new local," said the owners. "So much love and hard work has gone into The Sheep & Penguin, and we hope you love it as much as we do."

In addition to its new look, the venue features a carefully curated menu of food and drinks that pay homage to local flavours and ingredients.

Visitors to The Sheep & Penguin can expect a warm and friendly atmosphere that celebrates the rich history of the site whilst embracing modern comforts and amenities. With its strategic location and unique offering, The Sheep & Penguin is poised to become a key attraction in the heart of Somerset's cultural landscape.

Local residents are encouraged to drop by and experience the newly opened pub, embracing the sense of community and connection that The Sheep & Penguin aims to foster.

For booking information and further details about the offerings, interested individuals can visit The Sheep & Penguin's official website.
