A Stay at Home Story Writing Competition has been launched for all ages living in the villages around Wells.

The contest is being run by St Cuthbert (Out) Parish Council for residents to keep occupied during the coronavirus restrictions.

A spokesperson for the council said: "Welcome to the parish council's first ever story-writing competition.

"As we spend more time at home for the foreseeable future, why not find some time to get creative and imaginative by writing a story?"

For children aged up to six years old, there is a word limit of 100 words, for seven to 11-year-olds it is 500 words, for 12 to 16-year-olds it is 700 words, for 16 to 18-year-olds it is 1,000 words, and for adults it is 2,500 words maximum.

The subject of the story can be completely of the writer's choosing, but for adults their story must include the phrase "the bus driver was wide-eyed and looked a little crazy".

Email entries to [email protected] with the story as a PDF attachment. The competition will run for as long as the council gets entries.

Our winners in each age category will be permanently posted on the council's new website from September.

St Cuthbert (Out) Parish Council serves 11 villages around Wells. They are South, West and East Horrington, Dinder, Dulcote, Coxley, Polsham, Haybridge, Wookey Hole, Easton and Green Ore, south west of the B3151.
