Loose Ends are heading to Wells this weekend.

What's On in Wells is brought to you by our sponsors, Studio24 in Wells, Sandersons Wells, Crossfit Mendip, Wells Festival of Literature and Wookey Hole Caves.

Wells has put its glad rags on for the weekend, with music, afternoon teas, and a touch of Georgian drama.

Whether you're heading to a candlelit concert, dancing at St Thomas’s or finally booking that table for Mother’s Day, there’s no shortage of things to do in and around the city.

For the mums (or anyone who likes a scone and a sit-down):

At The Shrubbery Hotel in Shepton Mallet, they're planning a special Mother's Day celebration - you can click here for more details .

Over at the Best Western Centurion Hotel, there's a classic Sunday lunch. To book a table, call 01761 417711 and secure your spot before everyone else does. More info here.

Or, if you're after something a bit more atmospheric, The Bishop's Palace in Wells is laying on an Afternoon Tea in the historic Undercroft, complete with fizz, fancy cakes and a children's menu. Book here.

Spiritual side-step:

On Friday 28th March, Glastonbury Pagan Moot is back at The Beckets Inn, where Jacqui Thackway will talk all things labyrinths—from their ancient symbolism to magical uses. Expect a healthy blend of mindfulness and mysticism. Starts at 7.30pm, donations welcome. Details here.

Music, theatre, and all that jazz:

Also on Friday, Wells goes full throttle with Loose Ends playing live at St Thomas's Church—yes, you can dance in the pews (well, near them). Tickets are £8 and there's a licensed bar, so no excuses. More here.

If candlelit period drama is more your speed, St Mary Magdalene Church in Ditcheat is hosting "Bridgerton by Candlelight" with The Bristol Ensemble. It's like Netflix, but live and probably colder. Tickets and details here.

And at Strode Theatre in Street, there's a full line-up:

  • Dr. Strangelove (stage adaptation) – for those who like their comedy dark and nuclear.
  • Becoming Led Zeppelin – because it's not a weekend in Street without a rockumentary.
  • Puffling Percy – a small bird with big feelings (perfect for the kids).
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 3 – faster than a toddler on sugar.
  • Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy – she's back, widowed, and winging it.
  • The Greatest Hits of Whitney Houston & Lionel Richie – the ultimate singalong.
  • Dawn of Impressionism – finally, art history with popcorn.

Browse the full Strode Theatre line-up here.

April is shaping up to be a huge month for live music in Wells, as Studio 24 welcomes a stacked lineup of iconic bands and top tribute acts. From the chart-topping nostalgia of Toploader's Onka's Big Moka anniversary tour to the swaggering sounds of Oasis tribute Oas-is, plus soulful legends The Christians and the genre-blending psychedelia of System 7 – there's something for every taste. If you're planning to catch a gig, you'd better move fast – tickets are already selling quickly.

So whether you're into Victorian dramas or puffling-based theatre, there's something on this weekend to keep the whole household happy. Just don't forget to book ahead—and maybe finally get around to buying that card for mum.
