Wells is set to sparkle this weekend with a variety of community-focused events, from the Christmas Artisan Market at The Bishop's Palace to a mesmerising evening at Wells Cathedral for "A Night at the Opera by Candlelight." Those interested in stargazing can join the Wells & Mendip Astronomers at their Open Evening, while music lovers have a special treat with the folk duo Christina Alden & Alex Patterson at Cedars Hall. Friday, 1 November kicks off with a music night at The King Arthur in Glastonbury. Dub Catalyst takes over from 7 pm, filling the venue with the energetic beats of dub music to help locals unwind and enjoy some bass-driven rhythm. Saturday, 2 November brings a bustling lineup for all ages. For the young (and young at heart), Pokémon Trading Day and a Halloween Fancy Dress Competition will be held at Glastonbury Scout Hut from 11 am to 2 pm. On Sunday, 3rd November, Wells City Football Club invites the community to its annual fireworks show, where gates open at 5 pm at Rowdens Road. Tickets are £5 for adults, £3 for children, or £15 for a family, with under-4s attending for free. Attendees can also enjoy hot food, drinks, and beers from the club's bar. All proceeds will go toward youth team development and club improvements, thanks to event sponsor, Protec.
Also on Saturday, The Bishop's Palace in Wells opens its doors for a two-day Christmas Artisan Market, running from 10 am to 4 pm. Visitors can browse stalls brimming with locally made crafts and gifts, all while enjoying live music from local choirs. Shepton Mallet's annual Rotary Club fireworks display is back this Saturday, 2 November, promising a spectacular evening for families at West Shepton Playing Fields on Old Wells Road. The popular event will see gates open at 6.15pm, with the bonfire set to be lit at 7pm. Visitors are advised to arrive early to secure a good spot and avoid the rush. Tickets are priced at £5 for adults if bought in advance or £6 on the night. For children aged 5-15, entry costs £3 in advance or £4 at the gate, while children under four can attend for free. Family tickets are available at £15 in advance or £18 on the night.
Music lovers won't want to miss Christina Alden & Alex Patterson at Cedars Hall in Wells, starting at 7:30 pm. This folk duo from Norwich brings beautiful harmonies and intricate instrumentation for an evening of heartfelt music. Tickets and details here

Last, but by no means least, on Monday, 4th November, Wells Cathedral School will host its free fireworks display on Cedars Field, with food and drink available from 5:45 pm and the fireworks beginning at 6:45 pm. Donations will be encouraged to support Save the Children, and guests are asked to leave sparklers at home for safety.
