Wells literary lunches close for bookings tomorrow
By Laura Linham 8th Oct 2026
Readers hoping to share lunch with an author at Wells Festival of Literature have until Friday, 9 October, to book their place.
Three literary lunches will take place during this year's festival, bringing readers and writers together over soup and pudding before their afternoon talks at Cedars Hall.
The festival, a sponsor of Wells Nub News, runs from 16 to 24 October. While bookings for the lunches close this week, tickets for other events remain available throughout the festival.
Art historian Elizabeth Goldring will host the first lunch on Tuesday, 20 October. Her illustrated biography of Hans Holbein explores the life and work of the painter whose portraits helped shape our view of the Tudor court.
On Wednesday, 21 October, travel writer and biographer Sara Wheeler will join readers ahead of her talk about Jan Morris. Her book examines the life of the journalist and writer, from reporting on the 1953 Everest expedition to a career whose books reached readers around the world.
Historian and broadcaster Kate Williams completes the lunch programme on Friday, 23 October. Her book, Regina: A New History of Women and Power, explores women from Cleopatra to Grace Kelly and challenges the stories built around their lives.
Each lunch costs £12.50 and takes place in Cedars Dining Hall, with a different menu for each gathering. The authors' talks follow at 2pm in Cedars Hall and require separate tickets, with options to book the talk alone or add lunch at checkout.
The lunches give readers time to meet the speakers and chat in a smaller setting before the main events.
Bookings and the full programme are available through the Wells Festival of Literature website. Anyone with dietary requirements can contact the box office on 01749 834483.
