Writers worldwide can enter the Wells Festival of Literature's contests until 30 June for a share of £5,000.

Writers, poets and storytellers have from now until 30 June to enter the Wells Festival of Literature's international competitions – with a total prize fund of £5,000 on offer.

Entries opened today (1 April) and organisers expect strong competition once again, with submissions coming in from across the globe. The competitions are open to both new and experienced writers, with special prizes available for local entrants.

The winners will be announced at a prize-giving ceremony during the Wells Festival of Literature, which runs from 17 to 25 October 2025. The awards event, which includes readings and presentations, will take place at Cedars Hall on Monday 20 October at 2pm.

This year's judging panel includes:

  • Camille Ralphs (Open Poetry)
  • Fleur Hitchcock (Book for Children)
  • Judith Heneghan (Short Story)
  • Sanah Ahsan (Young Poets)

Organisers say previous winners and shortlisted writers have gone on to secure publishing deals, making the competition a significant opportunity for anyone looking to develop their writing career.

Full competition rules, entry details and more information can be found on the Wells Festival of Literature website.
