The Heads Up charity is still busy helping vulnerable people, despite its site at South Horrington being closed to the public.

Staff are still at Heads Up on weekdays, but with limited numbers for safety reasons, where they are able to answer the many phone calls they have been getting - mainly about concerns of where to go for help with shopping/medicine collection and Outreach support, etc.

The charity is also in regular contact with Mendip Health Connections to build up a contacts list of neighbourhood help so that staff can direct people to their nearest coronavirus support networks.

Business manager Sally Dempsey said: "We have also contacted and offered support to all our clients and dementia carers.

"This may be regular phone support, collecting medicines or getting groceries. For some this may be a weekly phone call, for others a daily call. We are anticipating that this support is likely to grow as time goes on.

"We have linked in to neighbourhood coronavirus support networks in Mendip to ensure that everyone, wherever they live, has the support they need.

"This will avoid unnecessary travel for many of our staff who do not live in Wells. For instance three Heads Up clients live in the Oakhill area where I live - I have joined the Oakhill coronavirus team and will be supporting these clients and their families along with other vulnerable people in my neighbourhood.

"We are corresponding regularly with the mental health and social work teams to keep them updated and to see if there is any further help we can offer.

"We have also contacted and offered support to all our volunteers, plus we have donated our FareShare food to local food banks until further notice."
