A gamer from Wells will be hosting a 24-hour Twitch stream to raise money for cancer charities. .

In an inspiring turn of events following his father's cancer diagnosis, Alex Westwood is gearing up to host a 24-hour gaming stream on Twitch to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

This initiative is in honour of his father, Kevin Westwood, who recently retired as the manager of Wells Town Hall after a dedicated 34-year service to the city council.

Kevin, whose career was celebrated earlier by renaming a room at the Town Hall in his honour, was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in June 2023.

Despite a challenging prognosis, Kevin's resilience, partly credited to the support from Macmillan, has been remarkable.

"He was given four months to live and as of November 2023 he's still going strong, part due to the amazing staff at Macmillan," Alex said.

Determined to give back to the organisation that has significantly helped his father, Alex is stepping into the world of live streaming.

On Thursday, 14th December at 7pm, he will embark on a 24-hour gaming marathon, live on Twitch. The event promises interactive elements, where viewers can message Alex during the stream, especially if they sign up for a Twitch account.

Alex's stream will feature various challenges and forfeits as fundraising goals are met, ranging from gaming in the dark to personal sacrifices like shaving his hair and beard.

"Each fundraising goal reached has me endure a forfeit. This can be anything from playing a horror game in the dark, deleting some of my game characters, getting a tattoo or even shaving off my hair and beard," Alex explained.

To support Alex's endeavour and contribute to Macmillan Cancer Support, viewers can tune into the stream via Twitch at https://www.twitch.tv/oafidan or on his donation page at https://gameheroes.macmillan.org.uk/fundraising/oafidan.
