Here are the main stories making headlines across Somerset today:

A councillor from Frome has been jailed over a motorway protest. Michael Dunk, who represented Frome West on Somerset Council and lived in the town, has been sentenced for taking part in a 2022 protest on the M5. The case has sparked renewed discussion over protest tactics.

Police have made more than 100 arrests in a major South West drugs operation. Avon and Somerset Police carried out coordinated raids, seizing illegal drugs and other items, as part of their effort to crack down on organised crime across the region.

Rail passengers in Somerset face disruption this week as major engineering work begins between Castle Cary and Taunton. The maintenance, including drainage and track improvements near Somerton Tunnel, means replacement buses and longer journey times for many travellers.

A Somerset bakery has won a national award. Field Bakery, based at Gothelney Farm near Bridgwater, has been named "Bakery of the Year" at the 2025 National Bakery Awards, receiving recognition for its bread and pastry offerings.
