Somerset Dragon to roar into Market Place
By Laura Linham 9th Apr 2026
Wells is set for a roar-some family day this weekend as the Somerset Dragon arrives in the city on Saturday, 11 April. The event will take place in Market Place, with the dragon on display from 9 am until 4 pm and a live performance at 11.30 am.
Organisers say children will get the chance to meet the friendly Somerset Dragon, enjoy the live show and pick up a magical storybook to take home. Alongside the performance, adults can browse a themed market in Market Place packed with stalls, local makers and treats for all ages.
There is more happening around the city centre too, with Wells Market and the indoor market in the Town Hall adding to the day. Organisers say there will be something for everyone as the county-wide dragon tour rolls into Wells.
The event is being delivered in partnership with Wells Cathedral and the Bishop's Palace and Gardens, with Wells City Council also involved. The venue is listed as Bishops Eye, Market Place, BA5 2RB.
It is another big public event for Wells city centre and one aimed squarely at families looking for something different at the weekend. Anyone heading into town on Saturday can expect colour, crowds and a dragon at the heart of it all.
