Skaters launch art auction to build new concrete park

By Laura Linham   24th Nov 2025

More than 40 artists have turned skateboard decks into striking works of art — and now they're up for auction to help build a new skatepark.

The "Art on Decks" fundraiser, backed by the Mayor of Wells, Louis Agabani, is raising cash for a concrete skatepark in the city, designed with local skaters. The auction is live online now and closes on Thursday, 30 November.

Each board is a one-off, custom-painted by top street artists, rising local talent and groups like the Glastonbury Bin Painters. The decks are on show at Glastonbury's Heart of the Tribe gallery until the 26 November.

A spokesperson for the Wells Skatepark Project said: "The response from artists and supporters has been incredible. This project shows what happens when people come together to support their community — collaboration really is the key to making this skatepark a reality."

All proceeds go towards the campaign to replace Wells' ageing ramps with a modern, accessible park for riders of all ages — serving the city, Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet, Street and nearby villages.

Bidding is open now via Galabid. More details at crowdfunder.co.uk/skatewells.
