Drivers travelling around Wells and Street face another week of roadworks, with Whitnell Corner remaining closed and temporary traffic lights continuing on the A371 and Somerton Road.

The main disruption between Tuesday, 6 October, and Tuesday, 13 October comes from existing schemes, while new temporary restrictions on Keen's Elm Lane in Street take effect on Wednesday.

On the A371 at Draycott, Wales & West Utilities' gas main replacement scheme is scheduled to finish on Sunday, 11 October.

The route between Wells and Cheddar reopened to through traffic on 28 September after an initial full closure. Temporary traffic lights remain while the final work is completed, although drivers no longer need to follow the diversion used during September.

Whitnell Corner remains closed while Somerset Council and contractor Octavius replace the B3135/B3139 crossroads with a roundabout.

The current traffic order allows closures on Wells Hill Bottom and Bath Road to continue until 30 October. Drivers travelling between Wells, Binegar and the A37 should follow the signed diversion and allow extra time.

In Street, temporary traffic lights on the B3151 Somerton Road are scheduled to remain until Monday, 19 October, as work continues on access to a housing development.

The scheme includes a new junction, pedestrian crossing improvements and road widening. Traffic can pass through the current works, but drivers may encounter queues.

A further full closure is planned from 20 October to 3 November. Somerton Road will then close between Burleigh Lane and Stallgrove Lane from 4 to 20 November for the next phase of the scheme.

New temporary traffic restrictions on Keen's Elm Lane begin on Wednesday, 7 October, following an earlier notice which took effect on 22 September.

The council's register does not specify the hours or type of traffic management in its summary. Drivers should follow signs on site.

Two schemes included in previous roundups were scheduled to finish last week: resurfacing on Glastonbury Road at Meare and gas main replacement work on Kent in Shepton Mallet. Both had an advertised end date of 2 October.

Further information is available through Somerset Council's traffic regulation order register.
