Motorists are being warned of disruption during urgent repairs to the road between Wells and Wedmore next month.

Repairs to the sewer network will mean the B3139 Wells Road, near Wookey, is closed to through traffic for up to three days in mid-March.

Wessex Water will be carrying out the essential work to seal manholes between Henton and Bleadney from Wednesday, 15 March under a rolling road closure.

The opening phase will move west along the B3139 towards Bleadney, starting from just west of the junction with Yarley Hill in Henton to just west of the intersection with Leaze Drove in Bleadney. The closure will be lifted in the evenings before being reinstated during the daytime.

A diversion using the A371 and B3151 Cheddar Road will be in place, with access being maintained for residents, pedestrians and emergency vehicles within the closure.

A Wessex Water spokesperson said: "We need to close this road for a short period to ensure the work to seal manholes can be completed as quickly and safely as possible.

"We apologise for any delays to journeys caused by this closure and ask them to take into account the extra time they might need using the diversions in place. We expect the work to be finished by Friday 17 March at the latest.

"We have written to residents and businesses in the area to inform them about the work.''
