A record number of musicians from Wells Cathedral School reached the Category Finals of this year's BBC Young Musician Competition, three of them current Wells pupils and a fourth, an Old Wellensian who finished school last summer and is in her first year at music college.

With four in the finals, this year Wells has the highest number of musicians represented from any of the UK's music schools.

Congratulations go to Year 11 recorder player Eliza Haskins, who reached the last five of the woodwind musicians and competed in the Woodwind Category Final, for the second time; to Year 11 pianist Bridget Yee and Lower Sixth pianist Sejin Yoon who both reached the keyboard category final; and to trombonist Meggie Murphy, currently studying in her first year at the Royal Academy of Music, who reached the brass category final. Meggie finished her time at Wells last July following completion of her A-levels.

The Category Finals were held at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff in the second week of March, where musicians played for a panel of judges and a live audience, and were filmed for a televised broadcast to be aired on BBC4 in May. There is also planned coverage on BBC Radio 3.
