Get ready for a train frenzy! Great Western Railway (GWR) has unveiled plans to operate over 60 dedicated trains shuttling excited Glastonbury Festival-goers between London Paddington and Castle Cary.

With a colossal surge in rail passengers anticipated, GWR is issuing a stern warning: reserve your tickets pronto or risk being left behind on the platform.

The countdown to Glastonbury Festival's grand opening on Wednesday, June 21 has begun, and hordes of festival revellers are expected to descend upon Castle Cary via train, before hopping on a complimentary connecting bus to transport them to the legendary Worthy Farm.

Sensing the overwhelming demand for train services during this musical extravaganza, GWR has laid down the law, making ticket reservations mandatory for all customers travelling along this route. Both London Paddington and Castle Cary will also have strategic queuing systems in place to ensure safe boarding and smooth station exits.

GWR has pulled out all the stops by scheduling a whopping 39 trains departing from London Paddington, boasting a seating capacity of over 26,000, to accommodate the throngs of festival-bound enthusiasts between Wednesday and Friday (June 23). Come Monday (June 26), an additional 24 trains will be at the ready, chugging festival-goers back towards London Paddington.

If you're eyeing Wednesday for your epic journey, it's best to aim for a departure after 2:30 pm, as morning trains are already bursting at the seams. Alternatively, early birds can seize the opportunity to secure spots on the 7:03 am and 8:38 am trains on Thursday (June 22), or opt for post-2:30 pm departures.

As you make your way across the footbridge at Castle Cary, en route to the festival grounds via the shuttle bus service, keep in mind that you'll need to handle your own luggage. Trolleys and sack barrows are strictly off-limits aboard trains and buses.

Castle Cary station manager Ben Scott said: "Glastonbury Festival is one of the busiest events on the GWR network and we want to get everyone here in a safe and affordable manner. To offer the very best experience for all of our passengers, that means limiting what can and cannot be brought on board and providing people with the best information we can to let them take advantage of less busy trains.

"Reserving a seat allows us to see which trains are the busiest, so we can let people know on our website where there is more availability. While we have bottled water on site, given the weather forecast I would also recommend people remember their sunscreen and carry water with them."
