Wells could once again be losing its Post Office.

The Post Office in Wells Market place closed in 2020, and after a temporarily being housed at the Princess Road Bus Station a permanent outlet opened in Natural Pets of Wells on Queen Street in September last year.

However, the current postmaster has now resigned and the branch is let to close in July – less than a year after it opened.

The Post Office is now advertising for "a successful retailer to incorporate a Post Office Local into their existing or proposed business."

Wells MP James Heappey has vowed to do what he can to help the city retain a Post Office.

He said, "I know constituents feel very strongly about the need for a post office in Wells. I wholeheartedly agree.

"That is why I will do all I can to help the Post Office find alternatives – which includes a temporary site and a temporary postmaster."
