Police in Wells are warning residents about the use of privately owned e-scooters and non-road-legal electric bikes, following a rise in reports from the public.

The Wells Beat Team has recently seized and destroyed an e-scooter that was being used unlawfully in the city. Officers say the action has led to a noticeable drop in anti-social behaviour linked to e-scooter misuse.

Residents are reminded that privately owned e-scooters and certain electric bikes, including Surron-style models, are not permitted on public roads, pavements, or open spaces. Vehicles used illegally are subject to seizure and destruction.

A police spokesperson said: "We will continue to use our policing powers to address the unlawful use of e-scooters on our streets. Tackling this issue remains a priority, and we are committed to ensuring our public spaces remain safe and respectful for everyone."

The team has urged the public to report any sightings. Incidents should be reported via 999 if a crime is in progress, 101 for non-emergencies, or through the Avon and Somerset Police website.
