Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Sue Mountstevens visited the Wells U3A on Wednesday 23 October 2019. The PCC spoke about her role, her priorities and her relationship with the Constabulary. She also discussed the role that local people can play in their policing service and why it is important that she hears from communities.

Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens said: "I always enjoy attending meetings such as the Wells U3A as it is important that, as the PCC, I'm at the heart of communities and listening to local people's questions and concerns. Only by meeting local people and hearing their views can I truly represent our communities and ensure everyone is safe and feels safe."

Chairman of the Well U3A Mike Lee added: "An entertaining and informative speaker, the PCC discussed her role and what her priorities are. She discussed numerous facts and we were shocked to hear that over 8,000 people are reported missing in the area each year.

"The PCC also discussed being delighted at recruiting more PCs and PCSOs to tackle burglaries, knife crime and drug crime. It was also interesting to hear the work taking place to reduce re-offending and how she feels that short term prison sentences are not the answer for many minor offences."
