Pupils at several local primary schools have been eagerly anticipating the post in recent weeks thanks to humorous poet AF Harrold.

Once a week for 13 weeks the author of the Fizzlebert Stump collection, and other stories, has sent handwritten poems on postcards to Chewton Mendip Primary, St Vigor and St John in Chilcompton, and Stoberry Park in Wells.

The postcards and visits have been funded locally by Wells Festival of Literature whose profits go towards promoting reading and a love of literature in local schools.

Other events coming up include organising author visits for World Book Day in March, offering help in providing library books for various schools and organising theatre visits.

This year's festival takes place from 18-26 October.
