The future of the Wells Post Office building in the Market Place is again up in the air after a planning application to turn it into a restaurant was withdrawn.

The application for notification for prior approval to change the use of a shop (use Class A1) to restaurant (use Class A3) at the Post Office, Market Place, Wells, had been made by Andrew Forsey.

Owned by Wells City Council, the building is currently leased to the operator of the Post Office branch.

However, there have been plans to move the branch to various locations around the city after the current operator said they wanted to stop running the service.

In the application, it was said that the Post Office "has been forced to close due to lack of use" and the plan was to turn the building into a restaurant instead, with outside seating in the summer.

The plan had been to open the restaurant seven days a week from 10.30am to 11pm on Sunday to Friday, and from 9.30am to 11.30pm on Saturdays.

It was unknown what type of restaurant the application was for, but now the planning application has been withdrawn.
