A planning application has been submitted to Somerset Council to expand parking at Priory Health Park in Wells, increasing capacity from 70 to 110 spaces.

The proposal, submitted on behalf of Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, seeks to add 40 additional parking spaces by converting grassed areas and upgrading unused hardstanding.

The plans also include two electric vehicle charging points and four disabled bays.

Priory Health Park, located on Glastonbury Road, provides a range of medical services, including general practice and pharmacy facilities. According to the application, the existing parking provision is insufficient to meet current demand, prompting the request for expansion.

The site, which sits within Wells' settlement boundary, has a long planning history linked to its use as a healthcare facility.

The site is close to the Grade II listed Wells Infirmary Main Block, also known as Priory Hospital. However, the application states that the additional parking will not affect the historic building or its setting.

Somerset Council will now review the application before making a decision.
