A Wells-based business has brought warmth and hope to local residents by providing free heating oil to those in need this winter. Tincknell Fuels, a family-run company rooted in the community since 1925, launched its 'Winter Fuel Giveaway' to support those struggling with rising costs and cuts to government winter fuel payments.

The idea for the giveaway was sparked during a management team discussion, where the company decided to give back to the community that has supported them for nearly a century. They invited nominations from the public, allowing individuals to put forward loved ones, themselves, or even charities. Hundreds of heartfelt entries poured in, highlighting the compassion and care that defines Somerset's communities.

Among the winners was a 97-year-old gentleman from Somerset, nominated by his daughter. Having narrowly missed out on the government's Winter Fuel Payment, he had been rationing his heating, using it only when absolutely necessary. The 500 litres of heating oil he received will ensure he can stay warm throughout the winter without worry.

A 75-year-old woman from North Somerset was also selected. Nominated by her husband of 30 years, she has been a loyal Tincknell customer for over two decades. Known for her careful management of their household's oil usage, she has always ensured their home remains warm while staying within their budget. Her nomination highlighted her unwavering support for her family during tough times.

The third recipient, a man from South Somerset, was nominated by his daughter. Recently widowed, he has faced financial challenges living on a single pension. Despite his own difficulties, he is known for his kindness and willingness to help others. Tincknell Fuels' gift will provide him with much-needed relief during the colder months.

The giveaway wasn't just about fuel—it was about offering comfort and security to those in need. Tincknell Fuels hopes the initiative has made a meaningful difference to the winners and has announced plans to bring the giveaway back next year. The company encourages residents to watch its social media channels next autumn for details.
