An off-grid, organic market garden at Godney could be built after receiving planning permission from Mendip District Council.
The application for the creation of a small organic market garden including erection of six portable buildings and three small poly-tunnels on land at Westhay Moor Drove, Godney, was submitted by Raymond Hayes.
The gardens, on land that was previously owned by Somerset County Council, will be in production from April to October and provide employment for four people.
Called OurGreenFarm, the site will produce high quality organic produce to be sold within 10 miles of the site at local markets and restaurants.
The business promises to be very environmentally-friendly in concept and will not use any artificial fertilisers, pesticides or herbicides, and aims to be carbon neutral within five years.
