Somerset Council approves the conversion of Priddy's New Inn into a café, homes, and holiday lets.

Plans to transform the long-closed New Inn pub in Priddy into a café, three homes, and two holiday lets have been given the green light by Somerset Council.

The landmark building on Priddy Green, which has remained shut since 2013, will now be repurposed in a bid to bring life back to the site while providing new residential and visitor accommodation in the village.

The approved scheme includes a café/restaurant on the ground floor, which developers say will maintain a social hub for locals and visitors, alongside the conversion of the existing building to create three residential dwellings.

Two additional units will be designated as holiday lets, contributing to the local tourism economy.

A new parking area will also be developed at the site, with spaces allocated for both residents and café visitors.

The New Inn has been closed for over a decade, with the previous owners having attempted to redevelop the site before selling the property in 2015. A report submitted alongside the application noted that the building had been on the market for several years but had received little interest from buyers looking to continue its use as a pub.

With Priddy's Queen Victoria pub just 200 metres away, planning officers determined that alternative provision was available for the community, helping to justify the New Inn's change of use.

The development is expected to breathe new life into the site, with work set to commence in the coming months.
