New multimedia guides to bring the history of The Bishop’s Palace to life
The Bishop's Palace in Wells will launch new multimedia audio-visual guides this January, offering visitors an immersive way to explore the medieval palace and its rich history.
The guides, developed after months of research, audience consultation and content creation, will provide 45 minutes of storytelling, music, imagery, and interactive elements such as quizzes, treasure hunts, and fun games. Visitors can choose between an adult version or a family-friendly tour designed to engage younger audiences.
Volunteers will be available at the Palace entrance to explain how to use the guides, which will be free of charge for all ticket holders, including day pass holders and those with the 12-month Annual Pass. Once collected, visitors will be guided to a seated area where a welcome video will introduce the story of Wells, the significance of the Palace, and the key themes of the historic site before leading them on a one-way route through the Palace buildings.
The project has been developed in collaboration with Imagineear, the creators of similar multimedia experiences for the Warner Bros Harry Potter Studio Tour, Wimbledon, Wembley Stadium, and the Natural History Museum.
The guides will be included with all standard admission, including the new Bishop's Palace Day Ticket, joint Cathedral/Palace day ticket, and Friends scheme memberships.
