After 13 years as a Trustee of The Palace Trust, including 10 years as Chair, Rear Admiral David Wood has announced that he will be retiring from his duties by the end of 2022.

The site and buildings of The Bishop's Palace and Gardens is owned by the Church Commissioners and operated by The Palace Trust, a registered charity which manages the site as a heritage visitor attraction.

Today, The Palace Trust seeks to conserve The Bishop's Palace for future generations: welcoming all who seek a place of beauty, reflection and enjoyment.

During his time as a Trustee, David has enabled huge changes in the organisation and its success and has been instrumental in overseeing sustained growth in visitor numbers, financial sustainability and the development of a strong team.

David's huge contribution to the work of the Trust will be celebrated by the team at the Palace later this year. In the meantime, the Trust now seeks an experienced and inspirational leader to Chair the Board of Trustees. An individual who will lead the community of Trustees, staff and volunteers to continue the Trust's work and successful development. Knowledge of the charitable heritage sector would be an advantage but most essential is the commitment of the Chair to the Trust's values and vision, together with an ability to raise awareness of and support for The Bishop's Palace with new audiences and new benefactors.

This is an unremunerated position although reasonable expenses will be paid. The deadline for receipt of applications is 5pm Wednesday 29th June 2022. More details about this important post, and the application process, are available via The Bishop's Palace website at www.bishopspalace.org.uk/about/jobs/
