Minibus appeal offers French-flavoured fun

By Philip Welch 20th May 2022

Boules are back with a new venue and a promise.

In the past they brought a French flavour and berets to Wells Market Place. Now, post-Covid, they have switched to the Bishop's Palace with the Boules Jubilee Tournament becoming a fundraiser to provide a much-needed minibus for mental health charity Heads Up.

"We are absolutely delighted that Wells Rotary have pledged their support with this fundraiser," said Heads Up manager Bridget Harvey. "The minibus will help so many vulnerable people in our community, allowing our clients and carers to have a better quality of life. We are so excited." It will also be used to take clients who spend most of their lives housebound out on trips around Somerset.

The date is Sunday June 12 with the fun starting at 9am in the magnificent gardens of the Bishop's Palace.

"Wells Rotary is committed to work with the community and enable Heads Up to get and operate a minibus," said Rotary president Wendy Ray. "The minibus will allow this wonderful local charity to offer an extended outreach service to those clients who have difficulty in accessing its base at South Horrington.

"Do please come along to the Palace gardens and support us on the day. If you would like to enter a team or contribute more generally to securing the minibus, Chris Borrison is the person to contact at [email protected].

"The more we can get local businesses and individuals involved in the project, the sooner we can get the minibus."
