A man has died in Wells this morning (May 19) after suffering a gunshot wound.

Avon and Somerset Police were called to an incident in Everett Close, Wells, shortly before 6.10am this morning.

A man, in his 50s, was reported to have suffered a gunshot wound. Paramedics attended but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesperson said: "Crime scene investigators are attending the property as part of our ongoing work.

"Although the investigation is in its early stages, at this time the death is not being treated as suspicious and is considered to be a self-contained incident."
