A street cinema project for Wells is taking place in September, and there are still places available on some of the community workshops that will give people the chance to try filmmaking.

Kinokotch is a collaboration between Somerset Film and Fabian's Films, and organisers are inviting local people to "Join award-winning filmmaker and academic John Sealey and explore Wells through a camera lens."

The project got its name because kino means cinema in Europe and kotch is Jamaican slang for chilling out.

The Kinokotch project takes place between September 2022 and April 2023 and features outdoor film screenings, the commissioning of two new short films and begins with a series of free community filmmaking workshops.

Places are available on the following workshops:

Thursday, September 1 10am-4pm at Elim Connect Centre (for ages 12-18).

Tuesday September, 6 10am-4pm at Elim Connect Centre (for over 60s).

Saturday, September 17 10am-4pm at the Wells and Mendip Museum (for all ages over 12).

Reserve your place here: https://www.somersetfilm.com/get-involved

Participation is free for those who live and work in Wells and the immediate surrounding Mendip areas, thanks to support from Mendip District Council's Communities Fund and Arts Council England.

The Minimum age for participants is 12. Signed carer/parental permission is required for all under-18s to attend.
