The NHS in Somerset is urging eligible individuals to take advantage of the remaining time to receive their spring Covid booster jab. Since the campaign's launch in April, over 69,000 people in Somerset have been vaccinated, which accounts for more than 70 percent of those who qualify.

However, Friday, June 30 marks the final opportunity to receive the booster jab, which is being offered to individuals aged 75 and over, residents in care homes for older people, and anyone over five years old with a weakened immune system. Additionally, it is the last chance for people to receive their first or second Covid vaccine.

Following this deadline, the vaccination program will transition to a targeted seasonal offer exclusively for individuals at increased risk. Caroline Upton, the head of nursing and quality for the Somerset Covid vaccination program, emphasized the importance of taking action: "We've seen a really positive uptake for the spring booster campaign in Somerset so far, but with just a week to go until the end of this program, we know that there are still some people who haven't had their jab yet."

Upton further explained, "It's really important to remember that Covid is still circulating, and vaccine immunity is declining for those most at risk, so having your booster jab is the best way to boost your protection and reduce the risk of becoming seriously unwell due to Covid-19 infection."

Multiple options are available to book a booster appointment to facilitate the process. Individuals can visit the national booking service to explore the various locations and clinics across Somerset, book through the NHS App, call 119, or attend a drop-in clinic, which are accessible throughout the county.

For further information on available drop-in clinics, interested individuals can visit the NHS website.
