Job Jamboree: Aprons, admin, and almighty pallets

By Laura Linham   12th Dec 2025

From school staff rooms to factory floors, from curtain call to kitchen pass, here's what the working world has on offer this week.
From school staff rooms to factory floors, from curtain call to kitchen pass, here's what the working world has on offer this week.

Whether you're on the hunt for a full-time gig, angling for a second income, or just nosing around during your tea break, the job boards around Mendip are alive and kicking. From school staff rooms to factory floors, from curtain call to kitchen pass, here's what the working world has on offer this week. Spoiler: you might need steel-toe boots, a DBS check, or both.

A well-regarded Wells primary school (part of the ACE Trust) is on the lookout for not one but three Primary Teachers from January 2026. Two full-time posts and one tidy little part-time gig (2 days a week) are going. ECTs are welcome, planning is shared, and the leadership sounds unusually human. Long-term contract, potential for permanency. Apply here.

If you know your way around a power drill and have strong opinions on Roman blinds, Hillarys wants you. There are installer roles going in both Wells and Street with promises of £50k a year (assuming you're flat out). Self-employed, choose your hours, make neighbours jealous. Wells role here. Street role here.

Up at the Mars Petcare factory in Castle Cary, they're after a Maintenance Planner who knows their TPM from their elbow and can tame SAP software before breakfast. It's a Monday-to-Friday gig with perks that include Lavazza coffee and discounted dog treats. Salary up to £45,400. Have a sniff.

The City of Wells Almshouses is after a part-time Administrative Officer to keep their charitable ship running smoothly. It's 21 hours a week spread over four days, up to £25k pro rata. Bonus points if you're calm, know your way around Xero, and don't mind helping out with housing benefits. Take a look.

Inspire Field Marketing is after a Field Merchandiser in Wells. No weekend work, pick your own hours, and wander the aisles of local shops making things look pretty. Pays £12.40 an hour, and the corporate buzzword quota seems mercifully low. More here.

Thrive Shepton is helping to recruit a Logistics Operative for a warehouse in Wells. Think stacking pallets, scanning barcodes, and trying not to knock over the tower of boxed dishes. Temp-to-perm, £15.65 an hour. Hygiene standards are high; your lunchbox better be too. Apply here.

Prezzo in Street is on a hiring spree. There's a Head Chef role going at £16.50 an hour, a Sous Chef post at up to £14.50, and you'll be feeding the carb-hungry public in an open kitchen. Tips and tronc are mentioned; so is passion. Head Chef role. Sous Chef role.

Over at Millfield School, also in Street, they're after a Chef with benefits (in the HR sense). £13.50 an hour, free meals, pension, GP access, and a car park spot that probably beats the Co-op. Read on.

And finally, up the road in Castle Cary, there's a swanky Assistant Restaurant Manager role going at a country estate hotel. £36k plus tronc. Suits someone who likes starched napkins, polished cutlery, and staff briefings that use the word "guest experience" with a straight face. Check it out.

That's your lot for this week. For more jobs in Wells, Street, and Castle Cary, pop over to the Nub News jobs board and have a nose.

You never know what might turn up.
