HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh to visit Wells Cathedral for Drakensberg Boys Choir concert
Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Edinburgh, wife of Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh and sister-in-law to King Charles III, will visit Wells Cathedral on September 25 in support of a special fundraising concert.
The event will feature the Drakensberg Boys Choir from South Africa performing alongside the Wells Cathedral School Choir and Musicians.
The concert promises a diverse programme, blending classical works by Carl Orff and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with the energetic rhythms of Afro-Pop and traditional African contemporary pieces. This unique collaboration will bring together two prestigious music schools to showcase their talents while raising funds to support future musicians.
The Drakensberg Boys Choir School, known for nurturing musical excellence, provides boys with a world-class education in music, academics, sports, and leadership. Many of the choir members rely on bursaries to pursue their dreams, and proceeds from this UK tour will go towards their bursary fund.
Wells Cathedral School and the Wells Cathedral Choristers will join the Drakensberg Boys Choir for this special performance. The Wells Cathedral Choristers, part of the internationally renowned Wells Cathedral Choir, continue a choral tradition dating back to the 10th century, with their treble voices frequently praised as some of the finest in the world.
