On Thursday, May 5, voters will go to the polls to have their say on who represents them at a local level.

Mendip electors will be voting to select Councillors for Somerset County Council and for Wells City, and some Town and Parish councils. There are a number of ways to vote in this year's elections - in person at a polling station, by post, or by proxy vote.

Vote at a polling station

On Thursday, May 5, polling stations will open from 7am-10pm to allow electors to vote for who they want to represent them. Your polling card will tell you where your polling station is located. A list of polling stations will be made available on Mendip District Council's website on Tuesday, April 26, here: www.mendip.gov.uk/article/10641/Elections-2022.

Vote by post

If you are unable to attend a polling station on election day, or would rather vote by post, you can request a postal vote application form, here. The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday, April 19. Once received, make sure you send your postal ballot packs back to Mendip District Council as soon as possible. You may also drop your pack off at a polling station on the day of the elections. Any votes received by the Returning Officer after 10pm on Thursday 5 May, will not be counted.

Vote by proxy

If you can't vote in person on the day of the elections, you can appoint a proxy – someone who you trust to vote on your behalf. Apply for a proxy vote here: www.mendip.gov.uk/proxyvote. Application must be made by 5pm on Tuesday, April 26.
